5.4 million Americans.jpgPresently, the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s is estimated to be at 5.4 million in 2016. It is estimated that 5.2 million people are age 65 and older with an early on-set of approximately 200,000 individuals are under age 65. These numbers will only increase and as baby boomers reach age 65 and older, a greater risk is evident. Statistically, by 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s disease may nearly triple, from 5.2 million to a projected 13.8 million.

These numbers are staggering and should further prove the immense need for a medical breakthrough. Additionally, it takes active planning, participation and community involvement. This is integral to the success of Alzheimer’s awareness. The Alzheimer’s Association provides free, easy-to-use tools and staff support to help participants reach their fundraising goal.

Remember, the best fundraising efforts start with the heart. You can share your own personal story about why you wish to participate in the walk and go to a fundraising page by logging in to your participant center. Once your page is updated, share it with everyone you know. Stay faithful to the fight against Alzheimer’s and one day we can recall it as a distant memory, forgotten and not missed; unlike the illness that robs so many of so much!
